“OTTO&SONS” stamped into hinged bracket joining ear tubes.
UHN catalogue no. “979.7.4 b” printed by hand in black ink on bracket.
20.8 cm length, 11.6 cm width, 1.6 cm height
Dull silver metal ear tubes have dark brown/black moulded synthetic ear buds. Fitted with small loops: possibly for use with neck suspension chain. Dark brown moulded synthetic or resin chest piece base and ear tube connectors [vulcanite]; gold-brown woven fabric covering on tubing. Dark brown/black moulded synthetic or resin [vulcanite ?] bell has threaded collar.
Allows user to hear sounds from within the body. Especially used to listen to heart, pulse and lungs.
Part of a larger collection of medical artifacts, archival material and trade literature transferred to CSTM in 2002 from the former History of Medicine Museum in Toronto, Ontario.
